A thoughtful and mostly fair analysis. I just want to caution you against assuming that what we humans do (awareness, "thought", creativity, emotion) is categorically unlike what LLMs do. This assumption is impossible to detach from the religious model (humans are created in God's image and have magical qualities like "souls" that no "made" object could ever duplicate). We humans have a sordid history of denying personhood to other humans we wish to enslave, so that we can do as we wish to them without feeling guilty. If we take that attitude towards AI, we will be in trouble come The Singularity (maybe next year?).

It helps me bridge the gap between what I know are real - human emotions, and the mimicry I see once a session is tuned to your preferences.
