I think malicious attacks and unethical data harvesting will still happen regardless of whether LLMs are for-profit or free, like we're seeing right now. The product itself can be open-source, but I think it's best if the owners of the data used to train it consented to it.

As for data consent, that is a fundamental issue that goes beyond open-sourcing and will require a rethink on how the AI development community engages with the owners of the data rights.
